Microeconomics Economic Development Bonus Assignment
1. Watch the video The danger of a single story and write a short summary of what you heard. What do you think about what she says?
1. Research - Research the concepts of economic development and then microfinance, and sustainable development. What do these terms mean? Why are these concepts important to any growing economy? (Don’t just give me definitions!). Finally research the World Bank. What are the goals of the World bank and how does this organization play a role these issues?
2. Initiative -Your next job is to put what you learned into practice. Choose a project to fund on Kiva.org. Explain what project you chose and why. In other words, to you, what made this project worth investing in? How is this project going to foster economic growth for the individual? (You do not actually have to invest to earn bonus for this project, but I highly recommend doing so.)
3. Understanding - What is neat about economics is that it is relevant to almost everything we do. It helps us understand people, where they come from, and therefore, each other better. However because of the issue is the video we often miss the bigger picture. Think about what you career you are currently considering pursuing. (Pick one if you have several ideas!) How might understating these concepts better impact you in your career? How can you make a difference?
4. Please type your responses to the above. Your project should be no more than 2- 3 pages! You may answer each question separately this does not have to be written as a paper. Attach a picture/screenshot of the project you chose to the back of your paper or save the page as a pdf and submit to me via email. I want you to have fun with this. I hope that learning more about these issues will help you as you choose a career.
